The last match ended 0-0 on the road against a hungry NC State squad. Alex Bono collected his 11th clean sheet of the year, 29th of his career, tying the single season record at Syracuse. The man has a 0.36 goals against average this year, keeping Syracuse #1 in the country in that category. The team goes into the final game of the season against Boston College as a consensus Top 4 team in the country.
And according the MLSSoccer.com, the Orange are the best team in the country.
1) Syracuse (13-2-1)
The Orange bounced back from a disappointing loss to Louisville last week by stomping Bucknell 4-1 on Tuesday. Syracuse couldn’t run their winning streak to two, drawing 0-0 at NC State on Saturday. But at the rate that other teams are losing at, we’re inclined to look at the Orange’s entire body of work. Syracuse have one of the best records in the country, one of the best defenses, and have somehow managed to fight their way to the head of the pack in a conference that, at the beginning of the season, we thought would likely cannibalize them. We’d still like to see them beat a truly elite squad, but right now, they’ve done the most to earn the No. 1 spot in the rankings.
They host the Eagles tonight in a game that could clinch the ACC Atlantic regular season table with a victory. Currently tied with Louisville and Clemson at 4-2-1. Unfortunately they cannot clinch the full table title as Notre Dame holds the head to head tiebreaker after the 1-0 loss earlier this season.
Back to BC. Coach McIntyre previews the BC game and the Postseason implications associated with it below:
