Inside Lacrosse Magazine began putting together a media All-American list last season and continues for the second year with its Preseason Media All-Americans. It was publicly released on Tuesday but that was my birthday, so ya know, cut me some slack.

The Syracuse Orange posted three names in total. The media slotted Brendan Bomberry and Nick Mellen on the Third Team and Austin Fusco as an Honorable Mention.

Just for a quick rundown of preseason accolades:

IL Media: Brendan Bomberry (2nd Team), Nick Mellen (2nd Team), Austin Fusco (HM)

ACC Coaches All-ACC: Nick Mellen, Jamie Trimboli

IL All-ACC Team: Tyson Bomberry

It’s pretty obvious heading into this season that the defense is the strength of the team. Dom Madonna should be in net to start the season, and while he is experienced as a division II transfer it will still be a transition. Therefore it’s nice to have such an experienced lineup in front of him. Nick Mellen’s brings back his quick movement, strong athleticism and ability lock down ability back to the field. Combined with Tyson Bomberry’s tremendous upfield capability, this defense has the potential to really help the offense by creating significant transition opportunities.

The Orange begins its season this weekend with a tilt against the Binghamton Bearcats. The Bearcats are not as good as they have previously been but BU has done a good job in years past keeping up with SU.
