Syracuse Lacrosse: Preseason ACC Coaches Poll and All-ACC Team Released

First up, the ACC released the Coaches Poll on Tuesday it looks a little something like this:

T1. Duke Blue Devils (17 Points)

T2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (17)

3. North Carolina Tar Heels (12)

4. Syracuse Orange (9)

5. Virginia Cavaliers (6)

This is definitely not how I have the ACC teams slated preseason. I believe it is Duke and everyone else, I also believe UVA has gained some ground and could grab a win this year. We’ve seen tie after tie in the final conference standings prior to the ACC Tournament, much of that due to the fact that the Cavaliers haven’t won a Conference game since the Maryland Terrapins were in the ACC. If UVA can grab one this year it could really have a major effect come ACCT time.

The Conference also released its Preseason All-ACC Team on Tuesday. Two Syracuse Orange players got the nod, Nick Mellen and Jamie Trimboli. As a freshman two years ago Mellen stood out as one of the best close defensemen in the league but he missed his sophomore season with an injury, so to give a spot to a guy that hasn’t played in that long of a time span shows just how much is thought of the Syracuse long pole. The combination of Mellen and Tyson Bomberry at close defense is going to be very hard to beat. As for Trimboli, he rattled off 12 goals and 13 assists in 2017 and is expected to have a huge impact in his sophomore year as the top returning midfielder. Desko told the crowd at media day he believes Trimboli will be more of a distributor this year.
