Inside Lacrosse released its ACC Conference Outlook publically this week and the magazine has the Syracuse Orange sitting third in its Preseason Conference Rankings. The Duke Blue Devils lead the rankings followed by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The North Carolina Tar Heels are fourth with Virginia Cavaliers in the fifth spot.
More interestingly, SU has just one player on the Preseason All-ACC Team. That sole Syracuse player is junior Tyson Bomberry. The full list features four players from each Duke, Notre Dame, and Virginia, while North Carolina didn’t have anyone on the list.
I don’t have any qualms about only one SU player being on this list although a few months from now I would hope to expect to see Nick Mellen and Brendan Bomberry on the All ACC list.
There are a lot of younger guys on SU’s roster right now, and this list has to be taken in the context of all the players the Orange lost this off-season. ‘Cuse lost its top three points scorers who combined for 45% of the team’s 2017 points. Evan Molloy is also gone, but I don’t think he would have beaten out Danny Fowler. Then of course there is Ben Williams who is usually a gimme to make a list like this.
