Syracuse lacrosse gains ground after wild weekend across the sport

Overall, there was a lot of movement in the polls after six teams in the Media Poll’s top ten picking up a loss.

First up, how the heck does the Media Poll not have 4-0 Hofstra listed? Princeton destroys Johns Hopkins and gets ranked, yet the Hofstra Pride are undefeated with a win over Princeton and aren’t in the ranking. To me that doesn’t compute.

Additionally, Army is ranked 13th in the Media Poll, below Albany. The Great Danes don’t have a quality win, although they played Syracuse tough, while Army beat SU. I have Army over Albany. The USILA rankings have Albany above Army but at a much higher ranking which I can wrap my head around.

My final issue with the polls is Boston University’s position. BU is 6-0 with wins over Navy and Air Force. At the very least I have the Terriers above Yale, Towson, and Stony Brook.

Now on to the ACC. The Syracuse Orange moved up in every poll this week after a one goal win over the Virginia Cavaliers. SU is now in the top ten in each poll. How the Orange were ranked 16th by the Nike/US Lacrosse poll is beyond me. As for Virginia, the Hoos fall out of the top ten in every ranking. Notre Dame played to a 5-4 win over Maryland this weekend, giving the Fighting Irish the top spot in every poll. The North Carolina Tar Heels enter the top five in each ranking following a 13-9 win over the Denver Pioneers. The Pios stay in the top five, however. The Duke Blue Devils had a 9-8 win over the Richmond Spiders and are still in the top 20 in two polls but the Nike/US Lacrosse rankings still have the Dukies not listed.
