Syracuse Lacrosse: Taking the odds: week 2

Each week @LaxVegasLines puts out the odds on the weekend’s best lacrosse games. Let’s make our picks!

NCAA Lacrosse: Men's Championship - Maryland Terrapins vs. Denver Pioneers Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

This is a weekly post I will be doing all year, just for fun. Keep track, add your picks in the comment section and watch along.

If you follow lacrosse, most likely you’ve ventured into the lax twittersphere where you can find a whole mess of interesting characters. One of the more intriguing profiles out there is @laxvegaslines which sets weekly lines for lacrosse. Back in 2015, the online sports book Bovada opened up for lacrosse wagers. Not long after beginning the experiment it was shut down due to a lack of interest. Thankfully, @laxvegaslines has filled the gap. It is a great follow and always makes for interesting lax talk. It should be made clear that the profile does not actually take wagers, just sets lines.

So just for fun, this season we’ll be keeping an eye on the odds, give you our picks, and I’ll keep an eye on how things go.

Join me and put your picks down in the comment section and maybe we can find out who will win all the Monopoly money!

Immediately below are this week’s lines followed by my picks. And of course, a big thanks to @laxvegaslines for putting together these weekly odds. I will also mention that I am not actually making any wagers (not that anyone would actually take lacrosse bets), this is simply for fun.

Yale Bulldogs -4, under 21.5

Tough game to predict, but Villanova took a huge hit losing to Monmouth. The Wildcats have a lot to prove going forward.

Marquette Golden Eagles -4, under 21

Marquette may not be that strong this year, and Jacksonville is under a first year head coach but still played Lehigh to a one goal game last weekend. I could easily see the Dolphins beating the spread but I don’t think it happens.

Penn State Nittany Lions -3.5, over 21

The Nittany Lions are looking like it may have a high powered offense. I think the over is close to a guarantee.

Towson Tigers -6, over 18.5

It’s a low under and definitely warranted. Mount St. Mary’s only managed five goals against Delaware last weekend, but at 18.5 I have to go over. Towson -6 is close to a given.

Ohio State Buckeyes-5, under 22

This could be a big scoring game for Ohio State but UMass will be shuttered offensively.

Loyola Greyhounds +1.5, under 25.5

I went back and forth on this game. I believe Hopkins will win but by how much? BY HOW MUCH!!??! It’ll be close.

Richmond Spiders -5.5, over 20.5

UMBC got smoked by Hop last week and Jim is a huge fan of the SOCON. I could see the under here too. It’s another tough game to call so early in the season.

Virginia Cavaliers -5.5, under 25

After last week? Give me Virginia all day long. Honestly, I don’t know a dang thing about Drexel but I think everyone is highly underrating UVA.

North Carolina Tar Heels -6, Over 20.5

How about Jacksonville taking Lehigh to a one goal game? UNC should do some damage in this game. At least 12 goals for UNC so I’m banking on Lehigh being somewhat in this to hit the over.

Maryland Terrapins -6, Under 22

Maryland is going to take down High Point by at least five. If the o/u was 20 I’d take the over but at 22? I’m just not sure High Point is going to do any significant scoring in this game.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish -5, Under 22

Georgetown is bad while Notre Dame is a defensive power which may not be that deep offensively.

Air Force Falcons -2, Under 20.5

I’m a little surprised that Air Force is only a two point favorite. I like the under, this should be a relatively low scoring game.

Army Black Knights PK, Over 21.5

I think Army is a strong team and could be a contender in the Patriot League. Rutgers is without Adam Charalambides.

Duke Blue Devils +4, Over 22

I’m not worried about Denver scoring, I’m worried about Duke. I think the Blue Devils are finally in a position where they may have figured things out since that Air Force loss, but we’ll see.

Syracuse Orange -4.5, Under 25.5

Am I the only one who thinks Albany isn’t that good? Syracuse by four and a half because Albany is lacking the significant scoring it once had. Yes I know Mellen is gone, but don’t underestimate the current defense, it’s quick and aggressive. Definitely under though.

Navy Midshipmen -2, Over 23

Navy by just two? I’ll take it. After two straight, tough losses the Midshipmen may be the most hungry team in the country, and they have the talent to back it up.

Quinnipiac Bobcats +5.5, Under 23.5

I know nothing about the Q-Pac, but while Brown lost its coach Lars Tiffany the Bears retain Dylan Molloy. And Dylan Molloy is all she wrote.
