Syracuse Lacrosse: Orange pick up a spot in the Nike/USLacrosse Poll

The Syracuse Orange came out firing in week one, and while the program stays at six in the Media Poll, SU moved up one to the seventh position in the Nike/USLacrosse Poll.

Following a 19-6 win over the Siena Saints, the Syracuse Orange stay steady at the six spot in the Maverik Media Poll but gained a position in the Nike/US Lacrosse Poll, moving to the seventh spot. UNC fell out of the top spot in the Media Poll after wins over UMBC and Furman while Notre Dame has yet to play a game but gained a spot in the US Lacrosse rankings. Then there is Duke. After falling to Air Force at home a week ago, the Dukies came back for a win over High Point and a clobbering of Cleveland State this past weekend. The Blue Devils fall five spots in the Media Poll and six spots in the US Lacrosse rankings, bringing them outside of the top ten in both. Finally, Virginia had a big, one goal win over Loyola Saturday advancing the Cavs into the top ten of both polls.

The Naval Academy put together a very tough opening schedule for 2017, playing at Johns Hopkins and against Maryland within a four day span. I have heard a couple of times that Navy is the best 0-2 team in D1 right now, but being as the only other 0-2 teams are Cleveland State and UMBC, it would be hard not to make that case. Don’t let the record fool you, this is a very talented team even with recent injuries taken into account. Navy may not lose again this season, but the Midshipmen took a huge drop in the rankings after back to back losses.

Villanova took a big time L versus fourth year program Monmouth on Saturday and fell out of both polls. It won’t get any easier for the Wildcats with upcoming games against Yale and Penn State.
