The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its weekly award winners on Monday. The Conference named Tim Barber the Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Syracuse's 14-13 win over the Virginia Cavaliers. The senior was supposed to be a midfielder this year, but after an injury to Nick Piroli, Barber moved up to the first attack line from the first midfield line.
Tim Barber came to Syracuse after two years at Onondaga Community College. Against Siena this year he had his first multi-goal game as a Syracuse Orange. His three goals against Virginia is a career high and his five points ties for a career high. The Camillus, NY native has seven goals and five assists in 2016, putting him just five points behind his 2015 total.
Barber is not the first Syracuse player to earn accolades from the ACC this season. Nick Mellen, Dylan Donahue, and Ben Williams have also been featured as either the defensive or offensive player of the week.
On the other side of the field, Matt Landis of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish took home the ACC's Defensive Player of the Week. Landis guarded Matt Rambo on Saturday and helped the Irish to a 9-4 win over the Maryland Terrapins.
Syracuse will host the St. John's Red Storm on Saturday at 4 PM. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN3 and can be heard on TK99. Of course you can also follow me @Orangelax for game updates.
