Virginia has certainly had its issues this year already. Losing to Loyola is one thing, but for a blue chip program to fall at home against a program such as High Point is really a stunning turn of events. While the Cavaliers have a fairly high ceiling on offense, defensively, it looks like the same story as last year. Matt Barrett is one of the better goal tenders in college lacrosse (as long as you're not looking at his 2016 stats) but once again he is getting hung out to dry by a defense that looks like it can't keep up.
On the Syracuse side, the Orange will be fighting to get to 4-0 without Nick Piroli who is dealing with a lower body injury. I know that every game is important but getting a win against Virginia will go a long way when it comes to the ACC Tournament seeding.
A big FYI for today's game, Jim (me) is stuck at work so John Orsenigo will be taking over twitter duties. Therefore, if you are stuck in an airport, at work, in a car (as a passenger) or anywhere else that does not have ESPNU, give John a follow at @JonnyOrangeSeed.
You can check out my pre-season preview of Virginia here, and I also did an update for that which can be found here.
