Syracuse Lacrosse: Orange #5 in Media Poll

The Syracuse Orange jump to the number five spot in this season's inaugural Inside Lacrosse Cascade/Maverik Media Poll. The ranking may be a little high considering how untested this team is at this point.

Before I get into the poll, I just want to spread the word to those in the Syracuse area regarding Syracuse University's Men's Lacrosse Centennial Celebration taking place on April 1. The night will begin at 6:30 PM at the Oncenter and will feature guest speakers and an opportunity to meet former players. There will be drinks, dinner, and dancing. The cost will be $75 for adults and $25 for children. Fans can register online or by calling 315-443-1419.

Now on to the poll... Inside Lacrosse released the year's first Cascade/Maverik Media Poll this week. The Syracuse Orange sit at #5, a fairly high ranking for a team with so many question marks, while all five ACC programs sit in the top eight.

Take a look at numbers five through eight. Just twenty points separate Syracuse, Hopkins, UVA, and UNC. That should give you an idea about what people are thinking about the bottom half of the top ten. There is not much disagreement on the top four teams, but the next four might as well just all be tied for fifth. Personally, I believe Hopkins is a good step ahead of Syracuse, UNC, and UVA. I would then put Syracuse and UNC tied at six, followed by Virginia at eighth.

Ranked Teams by Conference: ACC (5/5), Big East (3/6), Ivy (5/7), Big Ten (3/6), Patriot (2/9), America East (1/7), Colonial (1/6), Metro Atlantic (0/7), SoCon (0/8), Independent (0/2), Northeast (0/7)
