The ACC named its players of the week on Monday, and once again a Syracuse athlete has been honored. Last week, Dylan Donahue was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week while Nick Mellen was named the co-Defensive Player of the Week.
After an exciting second week of lacrosse, the Conference awarded its Offensive Player of the Week to Sergio Perkovic of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Irish took down the Georgetown Hoyas 12-7 in Kennesaw, GA, with Perkovic putting up four goals in the game.
On the defensive side, Ben Williams of the Syracuse Orange and Shane Doss of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were named co-Defensive Players of the Week. Doss finished the game against Georgetown with 14 saves.
Williams continues his run as one of the best faceoff guys in division I. The junior won his first 11 visits to the faceoff X and took 17 of 24 faceoffs in Syracuse's 16-7 win over Albany this weekend, bringing his season winning percentage to .725. Williams added nine groundballs to his totals for 14 on the season. Without Williams on the field, Sunday's game could have gone completely differently. It is safe to say that any success Syracuse had last season, and will have this season, runs through the faceoff X.
Syracuse will host the Army Black Knights on Sunday at 4 PM. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN3 and can be heard on TK99. Of course you can follow me @Orangelax for game updates.
