It has been reported by Jac Coyne over at Lacrosse Magazine that Syracuse Orange lacrosse will bring Dom Madonna on board for the 2016 season.
Madonna, a junior originally from Liverpool, NY, will transfer from Division II Merrimack College. Madonna has started in net for the vast majority of his Merrimack career, totaling a career .571 save percentage and 7.76 goals against average. In 2015, Madonna ranked fourth in Division II for save percentage and goals against average, yet he was 40th in saves per game.
Last season the Merrimack Warriors made it to the NCAA Semifinals, losing 8-7 in overtime to Le Moyne College. In that game Madonna picked up 9 saves and gave up 8 goals.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the junior fits in to the program this year and whether or not he has trouble adjusting to Division I. The Syracuse Orange had been carrying five goalies coming into the summer, with former OCC goalie Warren Hill being the early front runner to start in 2016. Along with Hill, Madonna should definitely be expected to be in the mix for the starting job. Also keep an eye on red shirt juniors Evan Molloy and Tyler Avallone.
