The ten finalists for the Senior Class Award have been announced and our own Kevin Rice has been named to the list.
"To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition."
This year Rice has 19 goals and 26 assists leaving him with 79 goals and 104 assists in his career. He is fourth in the nation in assists per game and sixth in the nation in points per game. Last season USILA named him a Second Team All-American.
Off the field, Rice is a history major. In his freshman and sophomore years Rice was named to the Big East All-Academic Team and as a junior he was named to the ACC All-Academic Team.
The fan voting has already begun (VOTE HERE!) and currently Rice sits at 9.5%. Fan voting accounts for one-third of the total while the remaining 2/3 of the vote goes to the division I coaches and the national media.
The other nine players on the list are as follows: Erik Adamson (Denver Pioneers), Connor Buczek (Cornell Big Red), Ryan McGee (Saint Joseph's Hawks), Terry McKenna (Holy Cross Crusaders), Matt McMahon (Penn Quakers), Conrad Oberbeck (Yale Bulldogs), David Planning (Ohio State Buckeyes), Joey Sankey (North Carolina Tar Heels), and Sam Somers (Army Black Knights).
Sankey currently leads the voting at 27.2% followed by McGee 15.9%, Somers 9.8%, McKenna 9.7%, and Rice 9.5%.
The Orange will visit the North Carolina Tar Heels a week from Saturday at 4:00 pm. The game can be seen on ESPNU and heard on WTKW 99.5 FM. Of course you can also follow me @Orangelax for updates throughout the game.
