Syracuse Lacrosse: Ben Williams Watch 2015, Week 9

Ben Williams is off to a hot start, and possibly a historic season. The Holy Cross transfer is second in the nation in faceoff winning percentage and first in the nation in groundballs per game. He is on pace to break school, and possibly national, records.

We will be doing this every week just to keep you up to date on how Ben Williams is progressing through his historic first season as a Syracuse Orange. For the original article and full rundown click the link here.

First off here's the game log, probably Williams' best game this season came on Thursday against Albany.

Instead of going through stat-by-stat, here is a quick rundown of the highlights:

  • Williams has 147 faceoff wins, 23 wins away from entering the top 10 list for most faceoff wins in a season for any SU player
  • His 24-27 record against the Albany Great Danes was tied for the sixth most faceoff wins by an SU player in a game.
  • Williams jumps from fifth in the country to second with a .700 faceoff winning percentage. He also jumps from fourth to second on the list of highest faceoff winning percentage in a season for an SU player.
  • Getting back to a .700 winning percentage also brought Williams back into the top ten in NCAA history for highest faceoff winning percentage in a season.
  • With 15 groundballs versus Albany, it brings Williams to 96 on the season, vaulting him from out of the top ten, to #4 for most groundballs in a season for an SU player.
  • Once again he leads all D1 players in groundballs per game. His 10.67 GBs/game is just ahead of Domenic Massimillian of the Cornell Big Red, and well ahead of Duke's Jack Rowe. He is currently tied for sixth all time in groundballs per game in a season with Steve Vecchione who snagged 10.67 GBs/game as a member of the 1993 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays.
