National Signing Day, Syracuse Recruiting: Colton Moskal Brings A W.A.R. Like Mentality

This 3-star linebacker from Illinois was one of the early verbal commitments in the Class of 2014, and Wednesday made his decision final.

Stat Me: Colton Moskal is a 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker from Lake Zurich high School in Illinois. According to his Chicago Tribune All-State profile, Moskal compiled 94 tackles, 12 for a loss, and four sacks. Other honors he earned were being named North Suburban Lake All-Conference and IFCA 7A All-State.

Seein' Stars: Scout, Rivals, 247 Sports and ESPN - 3 stars.

Who's Crying?: Cincinnati, Minnesota, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois and Central Michigan.

Money Quote: Moskal made his verbal commitment to Syracuse early last summer becoming the fourth recruit to verbal in the Class of 2014. In Oct.,'s Nate Mink traveled to Moskal's hometown and found out his father had died of a heart attack seven years ago, so nothing has been easy for him. Oh, and his high school coach created a daily mental toughness drill called W.A.R. ( "We Are Relentless"), which has become a sort of life motto.

"We Are Relentless means what you have inside you," Colton said. "What's your heart? What are you going to do when things get tough and your back is against the wall and you're facing adversity? Are you going to fight through it? Are you gonna step up and come to the challenge?"

Sounds pretty #hardnosed to us.

Which SU Coach Gets a Bonus?: Syracuse's quarterback, Tim Lester, and linebackers, Clark Lea, coaches get a star for this one.

Fun Fact: An assist can be given to recruit Zaire Franklin, who was key to getting Moskal to commit. Moskal has admitted College GameDay is his favorite show, while he likes to listen to rap and country music.
