A familiar voice was missing from the Syracuse Orange's 16-6 loss to the Clemson Tigers on Saturday, as "The Voice of the Orange", Matt Park, did not call the ACC Atlantic Division showdown at Death Valley.
This was a bit odd because Park tweeted prior to the weekend that he had arrived in Greenville, S.C. with team and was looking forward to taking in some golf prior to his call.
On Tuesday, we learned why thanks to a report by Syracuse.com's Stephen Bailey:
Syracuse football announcer Matt Park was charged with driving under the influence and passing unlawfully on Saturday morning, according to Greenville (S.C.) County 13th Judicial Circuit Public Index records.
Park's blood alcohol content was listed at under .10, according to the report, meaning that he was narrowly above the .08 legal limit. Park was booked at 8:25 a.m. at Greenville County Detention Center, according to their jail records.
He was held on $1,235 bond until his hearing was completed at 9:30 a.m., according to the report.
Park has been a very important piece to the Syracuse athletic department calling games for football, men's basketball and does some local radio shows with SU coaches during the sports season.
It is not known how Park's legal issues will affect his job or position with SU. Park is still listed as SU's play-by-play announcer in this week's game notes versus N.C. State Wolfpack. Meanwhile, Brian Higgins has been filling in for Park on the weekday coaches' shows.
