Get To Know Your Orange Man - #73, OT Jon Burton

Keeping GTKYOM rolling into Week 3...

Kicking off Week 3 of Get To Know Your Orange Man with a look at a new prospect in freshman offensive linemen, Jon Burton.

Name: Jon Burton

Position: Offensive Line

Year: Freshman

Height: 6-foot-6

Weight: 317

Hometown: Spotsylvania, VA

High School: Courtland (not to be confused with Cortland, which I did at first glance.)

2012 Stats: Burton was a second-team all-state performer last season at Fork Union Military Academy, a post-graduate program.

2013 Projections: Looking at the Post-Spring depth chart, Burton is way down on the depth chart. So, don't expect much from this first-year player this season.

How'd He Get Here?: According to a January article by Syracuse.com, Burton was discovered by former Syracuse OL coach Greg Adkins. Luckily, the departure of Adkins didn't lead to Burton leaving because, well, the NCAA has silly rules.

Burton, who developed a close relationship with Adkins during his recruitment process, said it felt like a small punch in the stomach when news broke that who he presumed to be his future mentor was departing for the NFL.

Other schools began sniffing around, Shuman said, in an attempt to lure Burton away from Syracuse. But he had already enrolled early at Syracuse and classes were under way.

Adkins also reassured Burton that the next offensive line coach, who is now known to be Patrick Perles, would be similar in style and demeanor. Adkins told Burton that he could contact him with questions or if he ever needed advice.

"If I need help, he'll help me out," Burton said. "So he's still kind of there."

What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: Burton's best rating came from ESPN, which rated him a three-star prospect. Meanwhile, Scouts did not rate him at all (go figure).

Money Quote: "It's a big motivation to be like, ‘All right, this program did something for (Pugh). It can probably do the same thing for me,'" Jonathan Burton said
