Late Tuesday night, Olympic Sportsbook released early-season odds for college football division winners and SB Nation's college football writers gobbled them up and put together a nice piece on them.
Included in the release was Syracuse football's new home, the Atlantic Coast Conference, which featured two clear-cut favorites in the Atlantic Division -- the Clemson Tigers (-135) and Florida St. Seminoles (-120). The Orange are slotted as a heavy underdog (+2500).
For those unfamiliar with money-line odds, a person would get paid $2,500, if he/she placed a $100 bet on SU to win the Atlantic, which also features: N.C. State Wolfpack (+800), Boston College Eagles (+1500), Wake Forest Demon Deacons (+2500) and Maryland Terrapins (+5000).
According to oddsmakers, Miami Hurricanes (+100) is the favorite to win the Coastal Division. The second favorite is North Carolina Tar Heels (+185) followed by: Virginia Tech Hokies (+300), Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (+500), Pittsburgh Panthers (+1200) and Virginia Cavaliers (+1500).
Now, I am not a betting man (I would be if I had the extra cash), but if I was, I would love to lay down $100 on Scott Shafer and the new-look Orange. Granted, Shafer can't come out and confuse opponents by using a 2-3 zone, but the ACC isn't the SEC when it comes top-tier talent. If you're going to take a chance, I'd take it with the Orange.
