Behind a man-beast of a performance from senior center Rakeem Christmas, who scored a career-high 35 points, the Syracuse Orange men's basketball team edged the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 86-83, in an ACC overtime thriller at the Carrier Dome.
Trevor Cooney chipped in with a 21-point performance, which included five 3-pointers, and Michael Gbinije scored six of his 17 points in overtime while snagging 11 rebounds to help the Orange (13-4, 4-0 ACC) earn their seventh straight victory. It also must be mentioned that Tyler Roberson was crazy good on the boards, as he snagged 10 of them, including two big offensive rebounds in overtime.
Wake Forest (9-9, 1-4) gave Syracuse all it could handle thanks to a remarkable shooting performance of the bench from Konstantinos Mitoglou, who netted a career-best 26 points by making 10 of his 13 shots from the floor, including four 3-pointers. Codi Miller-McIntyre was also fantastic for the Deacs scoring 24 points, including seven in the extra session.
There's a lot more to be said about this game (which despite being another heart-pounding, nail-biter was a great back-and-forth slugfest). That will be coming later. For now, decompress, everyone.
