A mere 203 tickets stand between the Syracuse Orange basketball program setting another NCAA on-campus attendance record, SU's official Twitter account announced Tuesday morning.
According to @Cuse, 34,414 tickets have already been sold for Saturday's showdown against hated-Big East Conference rival the Georgetown Hoyas. The contest will the last time the Carrier Dome hosts the pair as Big East foes.
Overall, this will be the 17th Syracuse-Georgetown showdown that will feature a crowd larger than 30,000. SU has a 10-6 record in those games.
The largest crowd to see a Georgetown game was way back in 1991 when 33,048 tickets were sold. The then Orangemen went on to beat the Hoyas, 62-58.
In Feb. of 2010, a reported 34,616 fans attended Syracuse's 95-77 victory over the Villanova Wildcats.
If you recall, back in '10 when the attendance record was set for the last time, Syracuse University halted ticket sales nearly three weeks before the game. One of the main reasons SU decided to do that was because they said it would not sell obstructed view seats.
With five days remaining to set the record, it will be interesting to see what the university does this time.
