The single-game tickets to see the Syracuse Orange host the Duke Blue Devils on Feb 1 were sold nearly instantly Wednesday morning, athletic department chief of communications Joe Giansante told Syracuse.com's Chris Carlson.
The result was probably a record for how quickly a Syracuse basketball game at the Carrier Dome sold out and it is almost a lock the game will surpass last year's record crowd of 35,012 that witnessed the Orange and the Georgetown Hoyas.
"I don't see how it could be faster," Giansante said. "Maybe there were other years where the tickets were on sale at an earlier date but it would be impossible for it to be faster."
As predicted, the only way now to witness the Duke game, besides buying tickets via a third-party website like StubHub -- which by the way is selling Section 333 tickets for $75!! -- is to buy season tickets for the 2013-14 season.
This could also be your only shot to by tickets to the North Carolina Tar Heels game, Jan. 11, too.
Like Duke, tickets to the game against the Tar Heels on Jan. 11 will continue to be available through the season-ticket package and are also part of a six-game mini-pack that SU is selling for $160. That package includes games against Indiana, North Carolina and four others.
Now, because tickets went so fast there's a lot of criticism being targeted to the SU Box Office, however, good luck getting anyone to feel sorry for you because they did their job, fair or unfair.
What now will be interesting is: 1) How high will these Duke/UNC tickets prices get?; 2) What impact these games have on the Indiana, Pitt, N.C. State or Villanova games?; 3) What type of attendance records we're looking at.
I mean. Wow. This is impressive.
