Get To Know Your Orange Man - #53 Lucas Albrecht

Give the walk-ons some love and come hear about Syracuse defensive tackle Lucas Albrecht.

Name: Lucas Albrecht

Position: Defensive Tackle

Year: Senior...or maybe a junior. His official profile on SUAthletics lists him as a senior, but he's only been a part of the team for two seasons and on the depth chart it says junior. I'm confused, let's move on.

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 258

Hometown: Hudson Falls, NY

High School: Hudson Falls

2012 Stats: He didn't play last year

2013 Projections: Lucas is probably going to do walk-on things with his friends. He's currently listed as third in the defensive tackle slot behind Jay Bromley and John Raymon. I wouldn't be too surprised to see him get some special teams work though.

How'd He Get Here?: Former SU assistant Jimmy Brumbaugh noticed Albrecht's prowess as a wrestler, and invited him to try out for the team.

What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: Nothing that I can find.

Money Quote: Lucas on finding out he made the team and summer camp back in 2011:

"I don't know how I feel yet," he said. "I remember being happy when I found out. Camp's been really tiring. It's a lot to take in."

Links of Wonder: Hudson Falls is proud of their boy Lucas.

Tweets of Wonder: Don't expect to hear much from Luke over the next few weeks:

What Does Shafer Brumbaugh Think?:

"It takes a while to become a good defensive lineman," Brumbaugh said. "It doesn't happen overnight. He's still learning the game. It's a process. He has good ‘twitch' (quickness) for a big guy. He just has to work on the little things -- working on his stance, his explosion, his hands."

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Lucas is a two time Big East All-Academic team selection and his major is bioengineering. He's no joke in the classroom.

Let Us Get a Good Look Atchya: Whenever I try looking for videos of him on Youtube I get videos of Luke Hancock and Spike Albrecht against the basketball team, so I'll pass. Here are some clips of Luke on the mat.
