Another week of getting to know our favorite college football players wraps up today. Let's learn a bit about walk-on lineman Seamus Shanley.
Name: Seamus Shanley
Position: Center
Year: Sophomore
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 264
Hometown: Syracuse, NY
High School: West Genesee
2012 Stats: N/A
2013 Projections: Seamus is third on the depth chart at center behind Macky and Jason Emerich, don't expect too much out of him on offense this year, but perhaps he can make an impact on special teams.
How'd He Get Here?: Seamus is a Syracuse native and was an Honorable Mention selection in class AA-2 as a senior. Sounds like a solid walk-on candidate to me.
What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: Not so much.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Seamus is the son of Officer Joe Shanley, who I can say with confidence is among the nicest, most welcoming people on the Syracuse campus. Earlier this year, there was a reshuffling in the DPS ranks, and Shanley was looking at a pay cut and a change in position that would have resulted in less interaction with students, which is what he does best. This didn't go over well with the student body, who rallied around Shanley in January, and ultimately helped limit the changes in his role on campus.
Money Quote: From a NewsHouse story on the rally:
"After seeing all of the students who showed up in support, it inspires me to realize how much of an impact my father has had on the community... His number one priority is taking care of this campus and every single student that attends Syracuse University."
Links of Wonder: More on Seamus' 10-1 West Genny team, who took down CBA for the Section III Class AA championship in 2011.
What Does Shafer Think: Couldn't tell ya.
