Syracuse Football Recruiting: Juwan Dowels Verbals To Syracuse

Syracuse received its second defensive back commitment in two days with a pledge from Plantation, Florida's Juwan Dowels.

Anyone who watched Syracuse this season knows that the defensive back group can use some help. Apparently, Scott Shafer and the Syracuse coaching staff agree, as they landed their second DB in two days in Plantation, Florida corner Juwan Dowels.

Dowels is a three star prospect according to three of the recruiting sites (Scout has not ranked him), and claims offers from Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Clemson, Rutgers, Utah, Cincinnati, and a slew of the usuals from the MAC, Sun Belt, and AAC.

Dowels is listed at 5-foot-9, 160 lbs, and ESPN lists his vertical jump at 30.6". He was originally committed to Northern Illinois, but now it appears that he is Syracuse-bound.

He was recently named the Broward Class 5A-4A-3A-2A Defensive Player of Year after a big senior season:

American Heritage cornerback Juwan Dowels had a hunch opposing offenses would try to pick on him this season with Tavarus McFadden, a 6-foot-3, five-star recruit, defending on the other side of the field. The 5-9 senior was right.

And he made them pay for it. Dowels snatched nine interceptions, including eight in the regular season. He also made 44 tackles and had 18 pass breakups for the state champion Patriots -- standing out even on one of the state's most talented secondaries.

Dowels was on hand for the Pitt game this weekend, and by all account he had a great time. He is...ugh...I'm so sorry, Sean:

Scout's Mike McAllister broke the commitment after the usual excited tweets from George McDonald and Eric White:
