While most of the Syracuse Orange football world was celebrating Christmas Eve and preparing for the Texas Bowl with family and friends, Orange nation got a nice pre-Christmas gift as it landed a commitment from a three-star defensive end prospect, Chris Slayton, on Tuesday. The news was broke by Scout.com's Mike McAllister.
Slayton, who is listed at 6-foot-5, 260 pounds, chose Syracuse over Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Mississippi, Nebraska and Wisconsin, says Scout.com. The Illinois native is listed as a three-star recruit by also Rivals and 247Sports and is the 16th verbal commit for SU's Class of 2014, the fourth from the Chicago area.
"I decided to go there because I felt it was the right fit," Slayton told CuseNation.com. "My parents agreed also. They have a good recruiting class from Chicago coming in. Not to mentionI have a good connection with their coaching staff."
The addition of Slayton is much needed for the '14 Class, as he becomes the first defensive linemen in that class to commit.
