The Syracuse Orange football 2024 recruiting class continues to grow as Marcellus Barnes chose Syracuse over finalists Georgia and Ole Miss at today’s All-American Bowl.

“From the beginning, Coach Fran recruited me hard and was honest with me. He tells you the truth regardless if you like it or not,” Barnes said in an interview with On3. “He is a lot like me. He is not afraid to compete and he doesn’t back down from anything.”

The 5’11.5” cornerback from Chattanooga, Tennessee was rated as a four-star by On3 and Rivals and a three-star by 247 and ESPN. He’s a consensus top 45 position prospect in the class and by the On3 composite, his 89.77 ranking is 3rd in the 2024 Syracuse class behind Jamie Tremble and Emmanuel Ross.

Barnes’ addition will help bolster the Syracuse secondary next year and beyond.

The Orange are now up to 30(!) new additions heading into the spring of 2024 - and at the rate Fran Brown has been working, he’s likely not done. Brown’s primary focus is now shifting towards the O-Line, as he just hosted several transfers on official visits.
