Syracuse athletics: Orange in 11th place in Learfield Director’s Cup standings

A solid start to the year

NCAA Football: Pittsburgh at Syracuse Dennis Schneidler-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange finished the fall sports just outside the top-ten in the Learfield Director’s Cup standings.

Syracuse with 256 points is one of four ACC teams in the top eleven as the North Carolina Tar Heels (372.5 points) hold the top spot over the Stanford Cardinal, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 4th (343 points) and the Virginia Cavaliers (259 points) are just in front of the Orange in 10th.

Syracuse earned points from football (53rd place-25 points), field hockey (5th place-65 points), women’s cross-country (27th place- 47 points), men’s soccer (17th place- 50 points), and men’s cross-country (9th place-69 points).

The next update is April 4th and will include basketball, women’s ice hockey and track and field. Overall, a strong start for Syracuse and to crack the top ten stay, it will likely come down to the basketball squads getting into the NCAA Tournament and winning some games.
