The Syracuse Orange offensive line is retaining one of its most experienced pieces. Mark Petry, who previously walked on Senior Day, will return to SU for a final year. Syracuse.com’s Chris Carlson was the first to report the news, getting confirmation from a team spokesperson.

Petry started the final 11 games of the 2023 season at right tackle, taking over for David Wohlabaugh after his season-ending injury in Week 2. His overall blocking grade by PFF was second among SU’s starting offensive linemen, trailing only Chris Bleich.

The Redshirt Senior played 758 snaps, fourth-most among SU offensive linemen, and allowed a team-worst 18 pressures, including three sacks. Still, Petry played much better down the stretch, finishing with above-average blocking grades in Weeks 12 and 13.

As the Orange have repeatedly learned, it’s essential to have dependable depth on the o-line. While the German tackle won’t be handed a starting job, he will be one of several competing for playing time throughout training camp. Wohlabaugh is returning, as is starting left tackle Enrique Cruz.

SU has also added Da’Metrius Weatherspoon, a transfer from Howard, and Noah Rosahac, a consensus three-star prospect.
