Syracuse men’s basketball: predictions and poll vs Boston College

Never forget #OrangeEagle

NCAA Basketball: Boston College at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange (10-4, 1-2) return to the court tonight as they look to get back on the winning track. It’s a big ACC battle between the Orange and Boston College Eagles (10-4, 1-2) come to the JMA Wireless Dome.

Game tips at 9;00 on the ACC Network and here’s what we expect to happen:

Kevin: Syracuse 83, Boston College 79

Both of these teams want to play fast, which is good for those of us who will struggle with the 9:00 tip. BC had a comeback win over the weekend while the Orange have been off for a week. That rest should be enough for Syracuse to close out strong. Quinten Post is going to dominate the interior but I think this is the game where both Chris Bell and Justin Taylor knock down a couple of 3s each to bolster the offense.

Dom: Syracuse 78, Boston College 72

Syracuse has won ten straight against BC, five of which have been at home and almost all of which have had margins of victory in at least double-figures. This is a much better BC team compared to usual, and I’m expecting this game to be a lot closer than what history says, but the 10-day rest for the Orange is a big asset. Autry has proven to rally his team after a big-time loss, and all indications point to this being the “need to try to win at all costs” game during this tough ACC stretch.

Mike: Syracuse 65, Boston College 58

In come two squads who are due for one of those games where nobody can seem to make a shot, so I’m calling for a low score. Despite the even records, SU has faced a more challenging slate to get here and would love to take care of business before being thrust straight back to North Carolina on Saturday. A well-rested Orange bench is the difference here as they sneak by in the closing minute & change for the win.

Szuba: Syracuse 81, Boston College 75

Syracuse has responded after its losses so far this year, so it’s would seem unlikely that the Orange won’t answer against a winnable opponent at home after eight days in between games. The Eagles don’t defend well and while Post will represent some problems for the center position, there’s enough off the bench to round out other areas of the game. If Syracuse can knock down some shots from outside it would alleviate some pressure but either way, Boston College won’t have an answer for Mintz.

Max: Syracuse 86, Boston College 76

Rounding out a clean sweep for the Orangemen. In these projected close games, it’s usually the team with more experience that pulls out the win. That’s Syracuse, who has played a significantly tougher schedule than BC (29th vs. 140th-hardest). The Eagles are horrible at defending the three-point line (310th), so this is the perfect game for Judah Mintz, Chris Bell and Justin Taylor to get right from beyond the arc. SU’s fast-paced transition game should also wear down Boston College over time and will be the difference in this one.
