Syracuse football: how were our preseason predictions?

We review the #DisloyalIditots

NCAA Football: Boca Raton Bowl-South Florida at Syracuse Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Now that we’ve hit the Syracuse Orange football off-season, let’s look back at our preseason predictions and see how we did.

Overall record/ACC record & Bowl Game (if applicable)

Andy: 7-5, Military Bowl.

Mike: 8-4, 4-4, Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Dom: 7-5, 4-4, Pop-Tarts Bowl.

Kevin: 7-5, 3-5, Military Bowl

Max: 8-4, 4-4, Fenway Bowl.

Christian: 6-6, 2-6, Military Bowl.

Steve: 7-5, 3-5, Military Bowl

Christian was the only one who got the overall and conference record correct. We all missed on the bowl game and the Orange are probably glad they went to Boca instead of Annapolis.

Offensive MVP

Andy: Oronde Gadsden II

Mike: Oronde Gadsden II

Dom: Garrett Shrader

Kevin: Garrett Shrader

Max: LeQuint Allen

Christian: Garrett Shrader

Steve: Enrique Cruz

Partial credit for Garrett Shrader who showed how valuable he was even when he couldn’t throw the ball, but LeQuint Allen eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark and he deserves this honor. Nice work by Max here.

Defensive MVP

Andy: Marlowe Wax

Mike: Caleb Okechukwu

Dom: Caleb Okechukwu

Kevin: Stefon Thompson

Max: Marlowe Wax

Christian: Leon Lowery

Steve: Stefon Thompson

Marlowe Wax, Justin Barron and Alijah Clark had the best overall seasons for the defense. Andy and Max get this one right.

Special Teams MVP

Andy: Jack Stonehouse

Mike: Trebor Pena

Dom: Trebor Pena

Kevin: Brady Denaburg

Max: Trebor Pena

Christian: Jack Stonehouse

Steve: Brady Denaburg

Was there a special teams MVP this year? Stonehouse averaged over 44 yards per kick so for being on #Brand we’ll give Andy and Kevin credit here.

Breakout Player:

Andy: Juwaun Price

Mike: Jeremiah Wilson.

Dom: Marlowe Wax

Kevin: Donovan Brown

Max: Bralyn Oliver

Christian: Isaiah Jones

Steve: Denis Jaquez Jr.

Jaquez was playing well before being injured at UNC. Brown started fast but really tailed off down the stretch. While Marlowe Wax might have been pushing the “breakout” after his 2022 campaign, he did find another level while replacing Mikel Jones so congrats to Dom.

You can check out some of the predictions in the comments here. A couple of others hit the 6-6 record on the nose, and we’ll definitely award credit for those who mentioned injury and OL concerns.
