Syracuse football: LB Fatim Diggs joins flurry of new Orange defensive prospects

Syracuse continues to become Camden North.

Fatim has shown a lot of interest in Syracuse, dating back to this visit in spring 2022. Now, he continues the Camden pipeline started by new head coach Fran Brown.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Fran Brown recruited a New Jersey prospect to come play for the Syracuse Orange.

Well, it happened again... and again it is a member of Fran’s hometown who will be heading north in 2024.

Fatim Diggs, a three-star linebacker from Camden, New Jersey, committed to SU on Monday. Diggs is the third Camden native and tenth player from the Garden state to pledge his support to Brown’s program.

Other offers included Penn State, Maryland, Temple, Ole Miss, and Boston College... though Diggs has been connected to SU long before Fran arrived on the scene.

Standing at 6’3”, 220 lbs., Diggs has a frame similar to current starting LB Derek McDonald. Some other linebacker spots will be open with the confirmed departure of Leon Lowery and a possible Draft declaration for Marlowe Wax. Regardless, this move solidifies what has been one of the more injury-ridden position groups the past few years.

Fatim’s older brother Fadil is also in the portal after four seasons at Texas A&M. Fadil is a highly rated Edge rusher with one year of eligibility remaining, who could serve as both a big-impact player in 2024 and a mentor to his sibling and Elijah Robinson’s other defensive recruits.
