Syracuse football recruiting: the weekend forecast is another flurry of visits

Let’s check this week’s guest list

NCAA Football: Ohio State at Michigan Detroit Free Press-USA TODAY Sports

As the Syracuse Orange prepare for the Boca Raton Bowl, new Head Coach Fran Brown is full speed ahead in terms of building the 2024 roster.

This weekend the Orange will welcome some already committed players, some undecided 2024 recruits and some big-time transfers to campus. Let’s see who is expected to be arriving in Syracuse:

The biggest name is Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord, who is ranked 22nd in the On3 portal rankings. The Philadelphia native put up 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns for the Buckeyes this past season. Fans soured on him after the loss to Michigan, so McCord is seeking a new home in his final year of eligibility. He’d be a big get for the Orange as they look to replace Garrett Shrader.

NCAA Football: Texas A&M at Tennessee Knoxville News Sentinel-USA TODAY NETWORK

Fadil Diggs is a defensive end from Texas A&M who will visit the Alabama Crimson Tide before arriving in Syracuse. That should tell you all you need to know about the Camden, NJ native. Diggs is 30th in On3’s portal rankings.

Four other Camden natives visiting this weekend will be Fadil’s younger brother Fatim, an uncommitted linebacker, current commit corner Braheem Long, Florida defensive lineman Will Norman and West Virginia linebacker James Heard, Jr.

Two Georgia wide receivers will be in town: Mekhi Mews and Zeed Haynes. Mews had 13 receptions for the Bulldogs while serving as a kickoff and punt returner. They will be joined by Buffalo transfer safety Devin Grant.

Several current 2024 Syracuse commits will be back to meet with the new staff. Those players are: quarterback Jakhari Williams, tight end Jamie Tremble, running back Jaden Hart, wide receiver Ta’Ron Haille, offensive linemen Noah Rosahac and Willie Goodacre, safety Michael Matthews-Canty and defensive lineman Tristen Graham.

There will be some other 2024 recruits in town as the Orange look to round out the class. Defensive end Caden Brown from Brooklyn leads the list and he’ll be joined by two Florida offensive lineman: Rutgers commit Raynor Andrews and Western Kentucky commit Gabe Arnold.

We’ll keep an eye out for any updates to this list as we move through the weekend. Early signing day is Wednesday December 20th.
