Despite a tumultuous week that included the end of the Dino Babers era and the start of the search for the next coach, the Syracuse Orange overcame all the adversity and rallied this weekend to lock in a guaranteed bowl bid for the 2023 season.
Syracuse defeated Wake Forest 35-31 on Saturday to reach six wins on the year and end the year on a high note both for the program and our Duke’s Mayo Bowl O’Meter, which has certainly been throughout a lot. The pain was all worth it: the Orange are bowling and the Bowl O’Meter has reached peak twang. Life is great.
The Orange clinched a second straight bowl appearance, something the program hasn’t done since 2012 and 2013. Syracuse this time around will look to redeem last year’s loss in the Pinstripe Bowl. The question is: where to next for the Orange?
Let’s take a look at the current bowl projections for the end of the regular season:
Servpro First Responder Bowl vs University of Central Florida Knights
While this doesn’t have the glamour compared to the days where Syracuse was projected to make the Tony the Tiger Bowl, at least the next head coach can jumpstart recruitment in the Texas area.
Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl vs Kansas Jayhawks
Cue the 2003 nostalgia! While this isn’t a men’s basketball rematch nor a trip to New Orleans, maybe we can get Jim Boeheim to extend his media tour for the game.
Armed Forces Bowl vs West Virginia Mountaineers
Who isn’t going to rally behind Syracuse against West Virginia? Let’s put the Schwartzwalder Trophy on the line this time!
RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl vs Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
Two of the past three game MVPs for this bowl include Zach Wilson and Bailey Zappe, so that’s gonna mean something, right? Also, outside of the hypothetical West Virginia game, Coastal Carolina is arguably the second-best fun matchup on the board right now.
Wasabi Fenway Bowl vs Minnesota Golden Gophers
We may have lost to Minnesota last year, but Syracuse now has unlocked the powers of the almighty Thunder Dan. It’s time for a rematch.
Gasparilla Bowl vs South Alabama Jaguars
The pros: the Orange should enter as the favorites (right?) and no one is going to complain about a trip south down to Florida in the middle of the winter. The con: the last sponsor before Gasparilla was Bad Boy Mowers, and we all know how that turned out last year.
