Here’s what we’re watching for this Saturday:
Kevin: What will Nunzio do?
The most surprising thing about Syracuse firing Dino Babers this week is that the Orange have something to play for in this one. A bowl game isn’t making it a successful season but with a lot more turnover coming before January, it’s an opportunity to get extra practices for some players we hope are key pieces in 2024. It feels like the Orange are committed to the rushing-attack offense, but will Nunzio be more aggressive on fourth downs? Will there be some trick plays? And above all can he get this team to stick together for 60 minutes in the Dome?
Mike: A Proper Senior Sendoff
Last season’s home finale was a disaster, with Florida State running away with the game early and sending most fans to the exits at halftime. It won’t be nearly as full a house to begin with this time, but the on-field performance needs to keep those who do show up engaged all the way through. Caleb Okechukwu, Garrett Shrader and others will make some final Dome memories and with the effort they’ve put in to turn the program around, their teammates owe them 100% effort.
Dom: It ain’t over ‘til it’s over
For as much as this season turned for the worst compared to what we expected in the preseason, Syracuse still finds itself in a comfortable-ish spot to secure bowl game bids in back-to-back seasons for the first time in a decade. That isn’t something to take for granted, especially given the history of this program in the 21st century. As Kevin and Mile said, I’m expecting the Orange to play with some sense of urgency especially with the older players getting their one last hurrah in while the younger players will eye some more reps.
Now it’s your turn
