Rivalry: 11-2 Florida State
Current Streak: 1, Florida State
First Meeting: 1966 was the first time Syracuse and Florida State met, and Floyd Little put on a show at Archbold Stadium. The future legend rushed for 193 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns en route to a 37-21 win for the Orange over the Seminoles.
Last Meeting: Sometimes when you have Cam Akers, things go well. The Florida State running and future NFL starter ran for 144 yards and four touchdowns as the Seminoles defeated the Orange 35-17.
Head Coaches: Syracuse - Dino Babers (sixth year, 27-37) | Florida State - Mike Norvell (second year, 3-10)
Coach Bio: Norvell played his college football at the University of Central Arkansas as a wide receiver. His coaching career started there as well as a graduate assistant for a season before moving to Tulsa. There, he served as the wide receivers coach before becoming the co-offensive coordinator at Pitt for a season. Norvell then moved to Arizona State for a few seasons as the Sun Devils’ offensive coordinator.
Norvell’s success at Arizona State led him to his first head coach job with Memphis in 2016. He finished with at least eight wins in his four seasons with the Tigers, including an 11-1 regular season in 2019. That season led him to Florida State in 2020.
Last Year: Continuing Florida State’s slump as a national powerhouse program, the Seminoles suffered their third straight losing season in Norvell’s first year as head coach. Florida State did pick up a notable win over then No. 5 North Carolina, but notably also lost to Georgia Tech.
Last Game: Despite having more total offensive yards than Louisville, Florida State couldn’t do enough to turn around a 24-point deficit into a win. The Seminoles lost 31-23, with the team only scoring 10 points in the second half.
“Fear Me, I’ve Killed Hundreds of Timelords”: Jashaun Corbin is pounding the rock for Florida State this season. He has three 100+ yard rushing games this year and averages 9.1 yards per carry.
If Syracuse Wins: We laugh in the face of Vegas oddsmakers
If Syracuse Loses: At least it’s October - that means it’s basketball month!
Fun Fact: We are very pleased with Sean Tucker’s performance.
