Syracuse men’s basketball recruiting: C Peter Carey commits to Orange for 2022

SU was looking for another big man, and land him after a campus visit.

The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball program had lost some recruiting momentum after four-star forward Kamari Lands elected to decommit back in August. And while it’s not a one-to-one trade, we’ll take Jim Boeheim’s staff making another addition to the class of 2022 — which they did on Tuesday.

Center Peter Carey announced his commitment to Syracuse, making it a three-man class once again. He had offers from Rutgers, St. Bonaventure, UMass, Iona, Albany and others around the Northeast. But smartly, he elected to pledge to the Orange.

Carey’s a 7-footer and weighs in at about 210 pounds, so like most recent big men additions, he’ll need to add a few pounds. At the same time, though, you can’t teach height and the Sunderland, Mass. product certainly has that.

He joins Justin Taylor and Quadir Copeland in the 2022 class, which will likely be a bigger group than what we’ve seen in recent years from Syracuse. There are still some high-level targets out there as SU looks to close this class strong. The Orange could use another forward, obviously, after Lands left the class, so that’s a priority going forward.

You can check out highlights from Carey below. Welcome aboard, Peter!
