Things didn’t turn out too well for the Syracuse Orange football team the last time they wore the traditional orange/blue/orange home uniform combo (the 17-7 loss to Rutgers a couple weeks ago), so they’ll give it another shot on Friday night vs. the Liberty Flames.

The orange helmets, blue jerseys and orange pants haven’t fared too well since the 2019 uniform redesign, with Syracuse going 2-6 in them — including four straight since starting 2-2-. Along with the loss to Rutgers this year, SU also lost to NC State, Boston College and... Liberty wearing them last year.
Orange helmets are just 5-14 since 2019, while the blue jerseys are 3-6 and orange pants are 5-11.
Admittedly, the reveal of the typical home combo does come as a bit of a surprise. While the student section called for a “white out” (for no real reason) on Friday, there will also be Pepsi-blue SU towels in the stands for students. Meanwhile, the team will be wearing a uniform set that’s primarily orange. It’s all very Syracuse, when you think about it. And believe me, I do.
In any case, let’s just hope for a win so we’re focused on other things beyond uncoordinated visual efforts.
