What’s college football saying about Syracuse after week 3?

Each week, we’ll take a look at what other college football media sites are saying about the Syracuse Orange. The Orange beat Albany convincingly but is that enough to alter the media perception?

In this week’s SP+ rankings Syracuse moves up five to the 84th spot with the offense 100th while the defense ranks 57th. The Orange are ranked between Colorado and Northwestern. This week’s opponent the Liberty Flames are 45th this week with their offense 29th and defense 66th.

The Football Power Index has Syracuse up nine spots to 82nd between Florida State and Colorado. Liberty is 65th in the FPI.

Syracuse rises one spot to 11th in the local paper’s weekly ACC Power Rankings. The Orange are in between Miami and Georgia Tech.

It’s not worth getting too excited about thumping Albany in a pick-your-score matchup, but the Orange is the only team this low on the list with a road win and whose only losses have come against Power-Five opponents. On the other hand, the two teams Syracuse has beaten have a combined record of 0-6.

CBS Sports

In the CBS Sports power rankings Syracuse is up two spots to 79th between California and Air Force. CBS has Liberty ranked 27th this week.

The Athletic

The Orange move up three spots to 92nd in The Athletic’s Top 130 Power Rankings placing them in between Louisiana Tech and Hawaii this week. Liberty is 28th in these rankings.
