Syracuse football wearing orange/blue/orange home uniforms vs. Rutgers

The traditional look for Saturday.

It should be pretty easy to recognize the Syracuse Orange as... themselves on Saturday against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. As was announced late on Thursday, Syracuse will be wearing the traditional home look of orange helmets, blue jerseys and orange pants for the game.

Rutgers, on the other hand, will be wearing some bastardized memorial to 9/11 that’s in poor taste overall, but they believe it’s fine because they put “never forget” on the gloves and jersey side panels. Seems the photos on Twitter may be edited to look like they’re at Ground Zero, even if the football player actually isn’t. Still, it’s a bit much. Winds up they actually WERE at the memorial for the reveal? That makes this even worse, to be honest. The school just used a tragedy and a mass grave as a marketing photo shoot. (the claim is the uniform honors alums, but a better way to honor them, perhaps, would’ve been to avoid the reveal in this manner)

For those that care (me, maybe Andy), Syracuse is 2-5 in the orange/blue/orange set since they changed uniforms for the 2019 season. Split up as separate elements, that’s a 5-13 mark in the orange helmets, 3-5 in the blue jerseys and 4-10 in the orange pants.

SU most recently wore the orange/blue/orange combo vs. NC State last year — a game we’ll never speak of again. While they also lost to Liberty wearing these, SU beat Georgia Tech in them as well in 2020.
