The 2021-22 Syracuse Orange athletic season is already underway. So let’s take a look at some of the pre-season predictions for the Olympic (and other non-revenue) sports.

Women’s Soccer

Syracuse was picked 13th out of 14th teams in the ACC preseason poll. The Orange started their season off with a 2-0 win over Farleigh Dickinson. Senior Telly Vunipola scored a goal and assisted on freshman Ashley Rauch’s first career goal. Lysianne Proulx notched the shutout as Syracuse matches their 2020 win total right away.

Men’s Soccer

The Orange were picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic Division with the Pitt Panthers the overall pre-season ACC favorite Deandre Kerr was one of 12 players named to the pre-season ACC Watch List. Syracuse might have taken out some of the anger at this poll with their 11-0 win over Herkimer in their final exhibition game.

Volleyball

Pitt was also the pre-season favorite in volleyball. Syracuse was picked to finish sixth overall in the conference with Marina Markova and Polina Shemanova selected to the pre-season All-ACC squad

Field Hockey

The Orange were picked by the ACC coaches to finish in a tie for 5th in the league with Louisville and Duke. UNC was the heavy favorite as they look to make it four national titles in a row but after the Tar Heels there isn’t much separating the rest of the league. Charlotte de Vries was named to the pre-season All-ACC squad. Syracuse hosts this year’s ACC Championships so the Orange will be looking to qualify to benefit of the home-field advantage.
