Name: Umari Hatcher
Position: Wide Receiver
Year: Freshman
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 170 pounds
Hometown: Woodbridge, VA
High School: Freedom
High school stats: Was a first-team all-state selection in 2019 when he compiled over 1400 yards and 17 touchdowns.
2021 projections: One of a few tall wide receivers in this class, Hatcher could push for playing time this season as the Orange look for depth at the position. When you put up the kind of numbers he did in high school there’s hope that he won’t take long to be ready to contribute.
How’d he get here?: Chose the Syracuse Orange over Maryland, Indiana, Michigan State and Liberty. He also had offers from Virginia, Virginia Tech, UNC and Penn State.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars all around and a consensus top-50 recruit in the state of Virginia.
Money Quote: As Hatcher prepared for a spring senior season he told SI.com that he spent the pandemic trying to get ready to be an immediate contributor for the Orange
“A lot of the plays are similar to the plays I run at my school,” Hatcher said. “So I’m already going to know how to do everything. I just got to learn all the playbook and get it done.”

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: Let’s go with “Cry Freedom” starring Denzel Washington as South African activist Steven Biko. It’s a heavier topic than we usually recommend but also opportunity for Dino to show his players something with a deeper meaning.
Interesting nugget o’interest: Freedom High School was founded in 2004 so it’s actually younger than all of the Orange players.
