Syracuse men’s basketball: 4-star forward Kamari Lands decommits from Orange

A key piece in SU’s 2022 recruiting class is reopening his recruitment

Recruiting is always tumultuous at the best of times to follow. Unfortunately, Syracuse Orange fans got a stark taste of that reality Saturday night as 2022 recruit Kamari Lands announced his decommitment from SU on Twitter.

Lands mentioned in an interview with’s Mike Waters that he wanted to have the opportunity to be recruited with NIL opportunities in mind. He also mentioned that returning to Syracuse was still an option for him. Nevertheless, losing Lands is a massive hit to the strength of SU’s 2022 recruiting class.

The wing is rated four stars by all recruiting sites. ESPN and Rivals rank Lands as a top-30 player in the class. He profiled as a long wing player whose length would fit in nicely into the 2-3 zone and as a player that Syracuse could build the class around.

This is the second player that has decommitted from Syracuse in the 2022 class. Five-star point guard Dior Johnson decommitted earlier last year and recently announced his commitment to Oregon, where former Orange forward Quincy Guerrier is headed. Now the 2022 Orange recruiting class is composed of guards Justin Taylor and Quadir Copeland.

Finding top recruits to stick with the Orange has been tough in recent times, and it still remains tough after Lands’s decommitment.
