Height: 6’3”
Weight: 215 lbs
Class: Freshman
Hometown: Byron Center, MI
High School: Byron Center
2020 stats: Roon made first team all-state his senior season in Michigan, playing both sides of the ball. However, the accolades and recruiters came for his play at linebacker.
2021 projections: The linebacker group is pretty thin at the moment, and while Roon is a bit undersized at the moment, we’ve seen those types of players get chances to appear in games under Babers if their mental grasp on the game is there. I wouldn’t expect to see Roon outside of the FCS game/special teams roles reserved for true freshman, but a few injuries create another “break glass in case of emergency” roster crunch.
How’d he get here?: Roon chose the Syracuse Orange over Arizona State, Air Force, Army, Buffalo, Toledo and Ohio, among others.
What’d recruiting sites say?: 3 stars all around!
Money Quote: Roon was pretty direct on why he choose Syracuse and Dino over the other schools that came calling.
“I was really just looking for a program where the coaches really care about me and wanted me to grow as more than just a player but as a man,” Roon said, “I feel like those coaches really care about me.“

Tweets of wonder: Wouldn’t it be so cool to be really good at a sport and get trophies for being really good?
Thanks @Zeit_Rob and @michiganhsfca the opportunity to share the MHSFCA All Star experience with Coach Roussey and @RoonAustin before he heads off to @CuseFootball. We had a blast! pic.twitter.com/qvuREgw074

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: The Room. Get it? Because his name sounds like the title of the movie. So Dino would make some joke about him haunting backfields.
Interesting nugget o’interest: Roon was a three sport star back in Michigan, including Lacrosse. If Gary Gait needs reinforcements, he’s got one ready!
Let’s get a look at ya: You want these highlights, you need these highlights!
