Name: Enrique Cruz Jr.

Position: Offensive Line

Year: Freshman

Height: 6’6”

Weight: 295 lbs.

Hometown: Chicago, Ill.

High School: Willowbrook

2020 stats: Named to the 2020-21 Chicago Sun Times All-Area Football Team.

2021 projections: Syracuse thinks highly of Cruz. He was the Orange’s top offensive line target in the class of 2021. Like most freshmen, he probably (barring another 15 freak injuries) won’t see the field this upcoming season. However, I also wouldn’t be surprised if he finds a way on the two-deep at some point.

How’d he get here?: Quite a few Power Five schools were interested in Cruz. Arizona, Arizona State, Indiana, Louisville, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, and West Virginia all submitted offers to Cruz.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Four stars from 247sports, three stars from ESPN and Rivals.

Money quote: Cruz didn’t waiver on his commitment to Syracuse, even after offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh left the team. He did have insight on how new o-line coach Mike Schmidt would coach:

“Very, very, very technical. Very technical. Like, he’s very, very, very technical. That’s what all the other coaches told me about him, and he told me.”

Twitter feed: @Enriquecruzz1

Tweets of wonder: Cruz’s album cover:

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: The older crowd will remember the original “The Bad News Bears” that came out in 1976. There, Brandon Cruz plays Joey Turner, the ace of the Yankees who is coached by his father Roy.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Cruz was also a shot putter in high school, winning his conference championship this year.

Let’s get a look at ya: Good to see the coaches also embracing the “Syracruz” nickname.
