Get to Know Your Orange Man: #15, DB Neil Nunn

Can this talented DB help the Orange rebuild the secondary?

NCAA Football: Central Michigan at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Neil Nunn

Position: Defensive back

Height: 6-foot-0

Weight: 182 lbs.

Class: (Redshirt) Freshman

Hometown: West Perrine, Fla.

High School: Miami Palmetto

2020 stats: Nunn was set to be a contributor last year before injuries ended his season after four games. Given how banged-up the Syracuse Orange were in the secondary in 2020, it would’ve been ideal to have his help.

2021 projections: Now, Nunn should get a shot to jump back into the two-deep depth chart given the departures in the offseason. It’ll be stiff competition for playing time, and he’s up against many players who saw a lot of time last year. Still, figure to see him on the field plenty since he can play both safety and corner.

How’d he get here?: It was a long and winding road, but he did make it to Syracuse eventually. After picking the Orange at first, he flipped to Miami. Then, in a rare move, he flipped back to Syracuse. He picked SU over offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Boston College, NC State, Tennessee and more.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Well, 247Sports was a big fan and said four stars, while Rivals and ESPN said three. Still, he was one of the top-rated players in the class of 2019.

Money quote: When your coach offers this much of a ringing endorsement, you’re probably pretty good.

“He’s one of the best players in the country. I’ve been doing this 17 years. He’s one of the best players in the country.”

Tweets of wonder: We were already starting to see glimmers of what Nunn could be last year before his injury.

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: You might not recognize the actor’s name (Bill Nunn) but you probably remember the character Radio Raheem from Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing”.

Interesting nugget o’interest: We wonder if Neil will get to head into space like another Miami Palmetto alum, Jeff Bezos, did this week.
