Get to Know Your Orange Man: #96, DT Elijah Wright

The native Syracusean redshirted last season

North Carolina State v Syracuse

Name: Elijah “Bubba” Wright

Position: Defensive Line

Year: Freshman

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 278 lbs

Hometown: Solvay, N.Y.

High School: Solvay High School

2020 stats: Did not play last season.

2021 projections: He likely won’t see time this year, but could pop onto the special teams charts at some point this season. Wright could take a bit of development to work into a first teamer, but he does have some size and frame to add depth after Bear leaves next season.

How’d he get here?: Wright was an All-State defensive lineman at Solvay, and committed to Syracuse as a PWO. He had offers from Albany, LIU, American International, Hobart, Utica and Cortland among others.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Not much of anything.

Money quote: Wright spoke a lot about playing for the Orange when he signed, but his versatility was something that came to the forefront:

“They said they can use me on the defensive line, offensive line, tight end. So, wherever I can fit in that’s where I’ll play. I’m going to go there, work hard and wherever I play, I play.”

Tweets of wonder: Enjoy watching Syracuse players lift heavy things.

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: I mean it’s normal to go Elijah Wood, right? The obvious choice has to be Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I’m opting for his first ever film credit in Back to the Future Part II. Yeah, Marty McFly schooled an 8-year old Wood in video games in the film.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Wright’s father Leyvon is noted in his Syracuse bio as playing Division I football for Alabama from 1995-1998, though I can’t find his name on a roster.

Let’s get a look at ya: Hudl!
