Yet another piece of the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball scheduling puzzle came together on Monday. According to a report from Jon Rothstein, it appears that Syracuse will host the Indiana Hoosiers as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge this season. (Update: it’s been confirmed, as have the other matchups in this year’s ACC/B1G Challenge)
While we don’t talk about that one time these two programs faced one another, the Orange have actually won the five games since — including a 69-52 victory at the Carrier Dome during the 2013 edition of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The lead image for this piece is also from 2013. But instead, it’s the initial moments of the 61-50 upset SU doled out to No. 1 Indiana in that year’s NCAA Tournament (en route to the Final Four).
Neither Syracuse nor Indiana have fared incredibly well in this event. Indiana’s just 8-12 in 20 attempts, while the Orange are just 3-5. ‘Cuse has lost the last two tries during the challenge as well, falling to Rutgers on the road in 2020 and Iowa at home in 2019.
So for those keeping track at home, we are VERY close to having a complete non-conference schedule for the Orange at this point. Between this announcement and Drexel’s addition to the slate last week, we know nearly every opponent for 2021-22 — and may even know all of them if Cornell and Colgate are added, as one would expect.
