Name: Maximilian Mang
Position: Tight end
Year: Freshman
Height: 6-foot-7
Weight: 264 lbs.
Hometown: Nuthetal, Germany
High School: Leibniz-Gymnasium Potsdam
2020 stats: Saw the field quite a bit on special teams (kickoffs, PATs/field goals) in year one on campus for the Syracuse Orange.
2021 projections: Perhaps more of the same, though there’s a chance we see him more if SU decides to put two tight ends on the field.
How’d he get here?: On a plane, obviously. But he did have some offers from MAC schools like Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Toledo, plus former MAC school UMass. He smartly chose Syracuse, however.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Two stars, which is probably 3.5 stars in Euros.
Money Quote: Reno Ferri made quite the impression during the recruiting process, according to Mang himself.
“I really liked the connection I had with Coach Ferri because right off the bat, when we met at the Mercer camp in Georgia, I thought he was a really nice guy. Then we got a chance to visit in Syracuse, I really liked the place and the atmosphere in Syracuse. How (the coaches) treated us was part of what it really came down to.”
Twitter feed: @mang_maximilian
Tweet of wonder: Personally, I always appreciate a nod to Doctor Strange. Similarly, anything involving these graphics will always be celebrated around here.
Dr. Mang is in the house.

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: We’ll go with something starring Joe Manganiello. He played Burke in 2018 The Rock film Rampage. Granted, I’ve never seen it, and perhaps Dino hasn’t either. But the video game the movie’s based on remains a favorite for me decades later.
Interesting nugget o’interest: Maximilian and offensive tackle Mark Petry could be the first two German natives to play for the Orange, which is pretty cool.
Let’s get a look at ya: Keep an eye on the big dude.
