Get to Know Your Orange Man: #45, DT Kevon Darton

Some upward movement for the redshirt tackle.

NCAA Football: Camping World Bowl-West Virginia vs Syracuse Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Kevon Darton

Position: Defensive tackle

Year: (Redshirt) freshman

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 278

Hometown: Fitchburg, Mass.

High School: Worcester Academy

2020 stats: Darton made it into six games as a reserve defensive lineman, and one as a fullback in that weird heavy package that was rolled out with him playing his old position from high school.

2021 projections: Darton isn’t on the two-deep at present, with the return of Bear Williams and Curtis Harper, but could challenge for that backup spot as the season progresses. The way the line is rotated, he’ll probably get a few looks in there this season.

How’d he get here?: Darton took a preferred walk-on offer from the Orange. He also had a PWO offer from UMass.

What’d recruiting sites say?: No stars, their loss.

Money Quote: Darton seemed to like the confidence that he wouldn’t get different treatment from the scholarship players at Syracuse and said as much to Steven Bailey.

“[Former DC Brian Ward] talked about how we would get the same treatment as a scholarship player and how they don’t really refer to PWO as PWO,”

Tweets of wonder: He got some of the first looks, so here’s the spring preview hype video.

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: In the wake of the success of Jaws, others tried to copy the general concept of the movie. One of those attempts was 1978’s Piranha, a movie that included actor Bruce Gordon — who was from Fitchburg, Mass. just like Darton. We never promised these were all going to be good movies.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Darton actually has the background to be another Chris Elmore. Back in high school, he played on the offensive line and in the backfield, and obviously plays on the defensive line now.

Let’s get a look at ya: Hudl! —
