Jerami Grant named to USA Basketball Olympic squad

He’ll be the third Syracuse alum to play in an Olympics

NBA: Detroit Pistons at Oklahoma City Thunder Alonzo Adams-USA TODAY Sports

Former Syracuse Orange and current Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant was selected to the US National Basketball squad which will compete in the Tokyo Olympics. Grant was added to the team after James Harden withdrew and he’ll join Carmelo Anthony and Michael Gbinije as former Orange turned Olympian players (Jim Boeheim served as an assistant coach for three Olympics).

Grant took a big step forward in his first season in Detroit. He averaged a career-best 22.3 points per game for the Pistons and added 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. He’ll get some additional help next year in Detroit as the PIstons will have the first pick in this summer’s NBA Draft.

With the above roster, Jerami will be counted on to provide defense and rebounding in Tokyo and for a second-round pick to be named to this team shows how far his game has come. We’ll keep you updated on Jerami when the Olympics begin next month.
